Spotlight Saturday: Guinness World Record Break in The Campus, Quinta do Lago

Written on Monday 21 November 2022

This weekend, 60 year old Graham Morgan, Operations & Fitness Manager in The Campus, Quinta do Lago, took on an extremely impressive challenge in attempting to beat the Guinness World Record for most chin-ups in a 24 hour period - his goal being 7088 reps!

When turning '60 years young' as Graham refers to it, he decided he wanted to show others that you don’t have to stop when you’re 60. He’s certainly shown that, his practice sessions coming up to the Record Attempt involved thousands of reps of chin-ups performed in several hour sessions.

His hard work and determination paid off; Graham blew the record out of the park, performing 7,481 chin-ups between 10.30am on Saturday the 19th November and 10.30am Sunday the 20th. People gathered at The Campus gym to cheer Graham on, whilst others watched him on his Instagram Live @chinups4children, sending messages of encouragement over the 24 hour period.

Graham approached the challenge wisely and with a plan; performing 7 chin-ups at a time, carefully timing a short break between each set. He gradually decreased the number of repetitions in each set so that by 10.30am on Sunday he was performing 4 reps per set. Other than taking some short breaks to eat some food and have some water, Graham performed the chin-ups without any break for rest - doing chin-ups all the way through the night, his mental determination to commit to such a disciplined task for 24 hours really sets him apart.

And this was all done for a great cause; as Graham set up a fundraiser for Save The Children’s Foundation. As of the publishing of this article, Graham has raised €5,088 for his charity.

Well done Graham!
