Residency in Portugal

The Foreign and Border Service (SEF) yesterday (6th July) signed with Camara Municipal De Cascais signed a protocol agreement in the collection of documentation for British Citizens benefitting from the EXIT AGREEMENT between the EU and UK, in accordance with Article 50 of the Treaty of European Union.

The project aims to collect biometric data and renew documentation of British Citizens (including family members) covered by the Agreement. Approximately 30,000 have already registered in the BREXIT Portal.

The Municipality of Cascais, will under the scope of this agreement, provide the necessary facilities and resources to serve and collect biometric data for applicants. SEF will train employees of the Municipality of Cascais and provide the necessary computer support and structures for the process.

British Citizens will be notified by SEF, in due course, to make an appointment to attend Cascais City Hall to provide biometric data including photo, signature and finger print for the new residency permit.  Whether this process will be extended to other camaras, remains to be seen

The certificate with the QR code which can be down loaded from the BREXIT Portal, remains an official document of residence in Portugal under the Exit Agreement and is valid until such times as the new residence card is issued.

Finally there is some progress….watch this space!
