This week we spoke with Karina, an interior designer who specializes in home staging for the purpose of house rentals & sales! Karina says the goal of home staging is to ‘create a dream of the Algarve’ for the potential home buyer.  She has an international team, working in the Algarve and Lisbon.

"You don’t sell a house, you sell a lifestyle":

When you create a well-presented home with high quality furnishings, you’ve removed a point for price negotiation for the buyers - Karina says she helps the seller determine the price of their property instead of the buyer. It can also be useful when moving into a new home from abroad; new homeowners hire Karina to make sure their house is ready to move into when they arrive.

The fantastic thing about Karina’s service is it’s flexible; depending on budget, her team can repaint your home, refurnish with purchased or rental pieces, clean, make repairs, and decorate with the right colors, art, bed linen, blankets, etc. But on a tighter budget, she can advise and create a plan to enable a person to do it themselves. She shared a few of her home staging tips with me.

Karina’s Home Staging Tips:

- Keep your home light, bright, and airy. People prefer this, as subconsciously it feels cleaner.
- The Mediterranean style of decor helps sell the Portuguese Lifestyle. Think woods, light furniture, and light curtains.
- Neutralising a home helps people to visualise living there. When a potential buyer walks into a home that contains lots of personal belongings, they feel they are in someone else’s home, but you want them to easily picture themselves living in it.
- Create a mood board to make it easier to stick to a coherent theme
- Photograph your property in the best conditions! i.e. Curtains open, avoid old furniture & dark pictures, & use a good camera.
