Written on Wednesday 26 April 2023

Adrienne & her little Dachshund Hubert appeared for today’s Spotlight to share some information about the dog care facilities in the Central Algarve, and some tips for travelling with your dog. The Algarve has a lot of fantastic amenities for pets, so if you are coming to Portugal with your dog, or already living in the area, we hope these tips will help!

Some Doggy Daycare Suggestions:
Dog Hostel - Loule
Villa Tails - Loule
Woof land - Mar Shopping
Moon Dog - Almancil

Remember it may be necessary to provide your dog’s vaccination papers when leaving your dog in daycare facilities.
For long term stays, you may need to sign a contract.

If you decide to take your animal abroad on an airplane, for example with TapAir, you can bring your pet (up to 8kg) in the cabin with you.

If you’re going to go over to some of the beautiful islands from Faro/Olhão, make sure that your dog is in a little flexible container to get access to the ferry, which takes off multiple times a day.
If you don’t have a container, it is possible to book a water taxi to cross to the islands, subject to availability.

There are lots of great pet sitting facilities, hotels, pet shops, and very good veterinarians in the surrounding areas, such as Almancil, Quarteira, and Vilamoura.
You’ll always be able to find what you need on your local doorstep.

Is there anything else you’d like to know about coming to Portugal with your dog?
Or any dog care facilities you would personally suggest?
Leave any questions or suggestions in the comments!
