The Detox Barn

For this week’s Spotlight we wanted to share The Detox Barn, a transformative retreat in Castro Marim.
Lauretta & Sharon are sisters who share a passion for healthy plant-based food and believe in wellness without the stereotypes. Their story began when Sharon was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease shortly before her son's birth. Covered from head to toe in a chronic rash and at times wheelchair bound, she realized she needed to find an alternative path to regain her health.
Through extensive research & trial-and-error, Sharon discovered the profound impact of a diet rich in plant-based foods. With the support of her sister Lauretta, who embarked on the journey alongside her, Sharon gave up alcohol, processed foods, and sugar. Lauretta retrained as a natural vegan chef, while Sharon delved into positive psychology. Today, Sharon is rash-free, off all medication, and back to running. Their personal transformations have fueled their passion for helping others find their own paths to wellness.
The Detox Barn, hosted by The Gavin Sisters, offers more than just a traditional retreat experience. Lauretta & Sharon don’t take life too seriously, and they infuse their retreats with laughter, making them fun & down-to-earth. The retreat's theme revolves around the stories we tell ourselves about our limitations, and how we can rewrite those narratives for lasting transformation. They provide you with the tools to make healthy changes, boost energy, and achieve weight loss. Surrounded by wetlands, salt ponds, and the Reserva Natural do Sapal, a 2,000-hectare marshland known for its flamingos. 
The program is 5 days and nights, includes nourishing meals prepared by talented plant-based chefs, daily yoga, guided walks, cold water swimming, mindfulness, and meditation. You can delve into the healing properties of the Portuguese dead sea, relax with a natural mud mask, and explore the beauty of the Algarve's natural surroundings.
