Integrative Pharma

This week’s Spotlight is on Integrative Pharma in Almancil, owned by Barbara, who relocated from Lisbon to the Algarve in 2007 and began working at a pharmacy in Quarteira. But she felt disillusioned seeing the negative side effects of medications and the tendency to promote a "one size fits all" mentality, rather than adopting a more integrative and holistic approach to treating illnesses.
Barbara opened her pharmacy in 2018 as a solution to this issue. The pharmacy offers an excellent selection of homeopathic and natural products, including supplements, teas, herbs, hair/skin care items, & superfoods.

Barbara's brother, Rodrigo, also works at the pharmacy. He’s a certified yoga teacher and Ayurveda therapist who offers a range of massages in the dedicated massage room.

Barbara collaborates with clients to help them with illness prevention through a well-rounded approach. She conducts various tests, including live blood analysis, which provides insight into the immune system, inflammation levels, presence of heavy metals, and liver & cell health. Barbara also uses a bio-resonance machine that can identify areas of the body consuming more energy, serving as a roadmap for detecting illness.

She develops individualized treatment plans for her clients, with an emphasis on prevention. These plans may incorporate psychological work as well, as Barbara has studied psychoneuroimmunology and BioNeuroEmotion, among other alternative medicinal studies. “It’s not that the person doesn’t want to do things, but there’s something stronger behind, like something is locked.”

Barbara discussed how humans often discover things that help us, such as cell phones, but end up overusing them to the point of harming our bodies. She believes that this disconnection from nature contributes to illness, alongside side effects of medications, toxins, and high stress - and sometimes people need help to psychologically untangle that.

Barbara & Rodrigo try to encourage people to understand that we are responsible for our health and our life; we were born with one body, so while we are here we should take care of it.
