Algarve Candle Co in Boliqueime

Written on Monday 11 December 2023

Algarve Candle Co is this week’s Spotlight, owned by mother and daughter duo, Lauren & Pamela. When Lauren’s parents invited her & her husband to move from England to the Algarve with them 8 years ago, they took the chance to see how it went. Lauren & her husband had left the navy and were ready for a new adventure. Their family had owned an ice cream shop in England going back 102 years. They opened an ice cream shop in Albufeira, making ice cream there. But during Covid the shop closed. Lauren loved candles, so Pamela decided to start making soy wax candles & wax melts to pass the time during lockdowns. They turned out so nice that friends & family were raving about them, and Lauren & Pamela decided to start an Instagram account. The first Christmas when everyone still wasn’t allowed to travel, people were ordering candles to send home to their families in the UK & Ireland.

Eventually, taking over a section of Lauren’s dad’s warehouse to set up their shop, it’s a beautiful little shop along the N125 in Boliqueime. Lauren designed all the branding herself, which is minimalist and natural. They make & package all the candles there in the back. The shop is looking wonderful at the moment with Christmas decorations, and really incredible scents to get you in the Christmas spirit!

They offer candles, soap, diffusers, wax melts, lovely gift sets, and fragrance sprays. Now they supply to stockists, hotels, concept stores, interior designers, even real estate agents sending customised thank you candles.

They attend many markets, and they even hosted their own Xmas market outside the shop recently where Lauren rounded up all the friends she’s made from the other market stalls over time to make a great day.

It’s definitely worth following their Instagram account to stay updated with their market events & new fragrances.

If you’re looking for a Christmas gift for anyone who loves the Algarve, sourced locally, it’s definitely worth visiting their shop. They are open until the 24th December. You can also order from their online store.
